The Centre for Health and Community Research (CHCR) at the University of Prince Edward Island seeks applications for the position of Research Assistant. The CHCR works closely with researchers and stakeholders from UPEI and PEI, other maritime universities, governments, and health authorities on projects aiming to improve the health and well-being of Islanders and Island communities.  Currently, research is underway regarding a promising new computer-based cognitive behavioural therapy for addictions (CBT4CBT). Reporting to the Research Manager of the CHCR, the Research Assistant will perform various research tasks related to a research trial and real-world pilot implementation of this program, as well as other research projects underway at the Centre.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Meeting with participants to collect data (e.g., surveys, focus groups, interviews)
• Collecting data from healthcare providers and pharmacies to aid in the process evaluation of the CBT4CBT pilot implementation
• Collecting and entering data regarding program referrals and uptake
• Maintaining records of implementation activities and timelines
• Providing information on the program to interested healthcare providers or other stakeholders
• Assisting with preparation of surveys and data collection tools
• Conducting telephone surveys
• Survey data entry and validation
• Assisting with report writing
• Assisting with other research tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree in social sciences or related discipline (strong preference for post-secondary training in addictions) 
• Experience in working with individuals living with addictions issues
• Experience in working with healthcare providers providing treatment for addictions issues
• Knowledge of cognitive behavioural therapy would be considered a strong asset
• Excellent knowledge and skills in word processing, email, internet searching, and spreadsheets
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

This position is being funded in part by the Graduate Mentorship Program of Skills PEI.  The successful applicant must also meet the following program eligibility criteria:

• Currently unemployed
• Recent post secondary graduate (past 5 years)
• Legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen or permanent resident)
