The Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a research student position in fish virology. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will assist NSERC Discovery Grant-funded research and with routine laboratory procedures including RT-PCR protocols, cloning of PCR products, preparing solutions and buffers and general clean-up; and work independently on assigned research projects in the lab. Other duties may be assigned depending on other research projects underway in the lab. QUALIFICATIONS: The person that we are looking for should be highly motivated and able to work independently and to work well with others in a busy lab. Minimum qualification is successful completion of first year in a DVM program, and be familiar with basic microbiology and biochemistry lab skills including sterile technique and cell culture. Experience with laboratory virology techniques and interest in research work are desirable assets. Priority to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
