5 hours per week for the academic year

$11.44 per hour (vacation pay included)

October 17, 2016 – December 2016 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)

The Mawi’omi Aboriginal Student Centre requires an Aboriginal Student Mental Health Student Assistant who will be responsible for organizing cultural activities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students at UPEI with the focus being wellness. The Mawi’omi Aboriginal Student Centre offers services and supports to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students attending UPEI as well as cultural information and resources to the whole University community.


The successful candidates will work with the Aboriginal Academic Advisor out of the Mawi’Omi Centre and duties will include:

• Connecting with Aboriginal Elders and community members to organize wellness events Following cultural protocols, preparing for activities, advertising events on social media, taking photos (where appropriate) and attending to administrative duties
• Assisting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Education Day
• Working with the UPEI Indigenous community
• Presentations/outreach into the secondary school system and local communities
• Report writing


• Self-motivated  student
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Computer skills
• Interest in working with other people, in particular Aboriginal students and youth
• Experience in research is an asset

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
