$53,185 to $58,471 per annum as per CUPE 1870

The Office of Skills Development and Learning is seeking an E-Learning Instructional Designer that will provide consulting services, collaborative technical and pedagogical support to faculty and other subject matter experts regarding appropriate teaching strategies, learning activities, assessment mechanisms and the integration of appropriate learning technologies in the design and development of online courses that support teaching and learning at the University of Prince Edward Island.


● Provides consulting and support to faculty members in the online course development process, including:
      ● Responding to requests from departments and faculty to pursue online course development
      ● Defining learning objectives and learning outcomes
      ● Identifying appropriate teaching strategies and activities to meet a range of learning styles and preferences
      ● Aligning instructional strategies to desired outcomes through assessment strategies
      ● Recommending appropriate educational technologies to achieve desired outcomes
      ● Review new and existing online courses as needed
● Manages course development projects, establishing project timelines, deliverables and milestones
● Contributes and provides feedback on institutional policies and initiatives related to online learning
● Creates resources (e.g. guidelines, rubrics, training tools, videos, etc.) to support faculty designing online and/or blended courses
● Maintains currency in pedagogical and educational technology developments
● Conducts workshops (online, blended, face-to-face) and other learning activities for faculty and staff
● Gathers and reports on online course and other metrics


● A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Educational Technology, and/or Instructional Design
● A minimum of three years’ experience working in an online instructional environment, preferably within a university or college setting
● Experience with a course management system and online/distance learning delivery
● Knowledge of instructional design and pedagogical practices for online and blended learning
● Ability to conduct training and provide support to faculty both face-to-face and online
● Experience planning and managing projects
● Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills
● Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Awareness of and experience with social media technologies, sound and video recording/editing
● Competency in Moodle considered an asset
● Competency in Google Apps, Wordpress, Drupal, and Blackboard Collaborate considered an asset
