This summer two DVM students are required to work on dairy cattle projects with Maritime Quality Milk, in the AVC Department of Health Management.  This year, the students will work primarily on data collection for infectious disease and udder health projects, but duties may include other activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Sample collection from animals
• data collection, entry and processing
• assistance with laboratory procedures
• literature searching and processing
• study coordination (including contacting producers by phone, arranging visits, etc.)
• phone surveys
• other duties as assigned by Maritime Quality Milk faculty
• Additionally, there may be opportunities to accompany Farm Service clinicians on routine farm calls when clinical rotations are not offered during the summer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of at least one year of the DVM program
• good communication skills
• computer skills and good inter-personal skills
• Extensive experience with cattle in a farming and/or veterinary setting and demonstration of a strong interest in ruminant herd health are desirable.
