This is a permanent full time position within the Department of Companion Animals with some work to be carried out within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.  During the academic semester, the position will work with the Department of Companion Animals; the rest of the time will be spent within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in a flexible, floating technical position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

70% - This position will support teaching activities of faculty members in the Department of Companion Animals by providing technical support in the form of lab preparation and technical assistance during and after the laboratory sessions for 6 veterinary medicine laboratory courses in addition to other duties pertaining to teaching animals and research.

30%   This position will be responsible for completing treatment and diagnostic orders for patients in the Small Animal VTH on various services as needed; monitoring progression of patients; monitoring, advising and assisting veterinary students who are participating in case management activities within the Small or Large Animal Hospital; maintaining supplies and ensuring proper equipment maintenance within the VTH as required; maintaining high standards of cleanliness.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates for this position must:
• Be graduates of an AHT program from a recognized school with RVT designation
• Minimum 2 years’ experience with small animals
• Have excellent oral communication skills
• Be able to work effectively as part of a team
• Have excellent organization and time management skills
• Have basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Be self motivated and able to work independently in a versatile work environment

Experience in a referral practice is valuable. Experience with multiple disciplines and species is essential (for example: anaesthesia, surgery, and internal medicine involving but not exclusively chemotherapy administration, endoscopy support, critical care patient management, wound management, and bandaging).
