 Applications are invited for two student research assistant positions in Canadian Confederaton history with Dr. Edward MacDonald.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The students who are hired will conduct on-line and on-site archival searches for primary documents pertaining to Canadian Confederation in 1864-1867, with a view to creating web-site resources for the Guardians of Confederation conference scheduled for autumn 2014. To this end, they will communicate with archivists about document holdings, order material on inter-library loan, photocopy, organise, and file. They will also compile published transcriptions of primary documents and seek permissions from copyright holders for material that might be digitized. Students will also be required to annotate relevant sources and prepare reports and bibliographies for the conference organizers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Applicants should be in their third or fourth year of a degree program in History or Canadian Studies.
• Applicants should have a good working knowledge of historical methods, analysis and research, and strong writing ability.
• Applicants should also have firsthand experience with research and the analysis of primary sources.
• Good basic computer processing skills are required, and experience with digitization processes will be considered an asset.
