The Centre for Health and Biotech Management Research (CHBMR) at the University of Prince Edward Island seeks applications for the position of Research Project Manager. The CHBMR is a collaborative research group that specializes in supporting the Canadian health and biotechnology sectors through three pillars: research, knowledge translation, and education and training.  The CHBMR works closely with UPEI, members of the PEI Provincial Government as well as front line health officials on a number of research projects.
Reporting to the Director of the CHBMR, the Research Project Manager will have primary responsibility for the operational and scientific management of all of the CHBMR research projects. The ideal candidate will be motivated by the challenge of helping to further develop the unique research goals of this Centre. The successful candidate will be a strategic and innovative thinker and experienced manager with excellent research and communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
• Manage the ongoing research projects to be completed by the CHBMR and its staff including tracking research progress, budget aspects, quality and reporting.
• Coordinate projects with members of the research team and facilitating interaction and communications among staff, collaborators and stake holders.
• Build awareness and demonstrate the value of the CHBMR.
• Be familiar with contractual agreements and ensure requirements are met.
• Liaise and network with the key collaborators and stakeholders of each of the research projects being conducted by the CHBMR staff.
• Work closely with the Director of the CHBMR and the staff to plan the ongoing work of the CHBMR.
• Provide funders and collaborators with regular updates and reports on the status of research and agreements.
• Manage CHBMR Human Resource requirements for research staff such as participating in recruitment processes, liaising with appropriate resources for personnel issues and supervising staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should have a minimum of a Masters degree in a relevant area plus significant management and research experience. Familiarity with data analysis, Mental Health and Addictions care and experience in working with provincial or federal government would be assets. The successful candidate must have the following skills:

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience coordinating scientific research projects
• Experience in planning, leading, overseeing and executing research projects
• Demonstrated success in developing and managing new research projects
• Experience working with university, government and healthcare staff
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Previous experience in staff supervising and budget management
• Experience in research grant compilation
• Ability to work in teams in a cooperative and collaborative manner
