The Young Lives Research Lab is seeking a Graduate Student Research Assistant to support data collection, storage, transcription, and analysis for a research project on child and youth mental health in Atlantic Canada. The Graduate Student Research Assistant will be supervised by Dr. Kate Tilleczek, Director, and Dr. Brandi Bell, Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Research Assistant will:
• Assemble materials for data collection
• Manage and organize digital and paper files from multiple researchers across the four Atlantic provinces (data transfer and storage)
• Enter data into SPSS
• Transcribe interviews
• Carry out systematic literature searches, Internet, and grey literature searches; organize references in RefWorks, and synthesise literature

Additional tasks may include:
• Data cleaning
• Importing qualitative data into NVivo
• Conducting interviews

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential Qualifications:
• Master’s degree (completed or in-progress) in social science or related discipline
• A highly qualified fourth-year undergraduate student may be considered
• Experience in and understanding of qualitative research
• Experience in and understanding of research ethics
• Strong interest in computers and technology
• Knowledge of SPSS and RefWorks
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications

Asset Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience with qualitative research software such as NVivo
