The Robertson Library is seeking applications for a qualified individual to work under the general direction of the University Librarian, providing services to students, staff, and faculty of the University and the general public and providing support for ongoing and new projects as needed. The applicant will be expected to demonstrate judgement, flexibility, and initiative.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Provide a welcoming, student-focused environment at the public service desk
● Assist library users in accessing and locating library resources
● Provide information/reference service both in-person and online via the Library’s virtual chat service
● Support users in their use of technology within the library (e.g. copiers, the use of microfilm readers/scanners, various types of digital scanners, etc.)
● Assists in giving tours and providing support for other outreach activities.
● Circulate and check-in library resources, laptops, etc.
● Help train and supervise student assistants
● Participate in a variety of projects
● Use internal systems for tracking tasks and projects
● Other duties as required

Successful candidates will be expected to: work evening, weekend, and day shifts; implement library policies and directions set by the Library; positively contribute to the Library’s overall work environment and projects, and; work in cooperation with library colleagues.  Responsibilities will shift and alter as Library needs and demands change.

QUALIFICATIONS:

● Library Technician Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
● Bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution would be an asset
● Demonstrated strong customer service orientation
● Minimum two years’ experience in an automated library environment
● In-depth knowledge of bibliographic databases and strong searching skills
● Ability to work independently as well as within a team
● strong commitment to enhancing service through teamwork and responsiveness to Library users
● Strong technology skills plus an open attitude towards new technology
● Knowledge of Drupal would be an asset
● Effective writing skills and proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing programs
● A flexible approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively respond to issues
● Ability to perform some bending/lifting, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items
