The Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island is seeking a highly qualified individual for a research scientist position in veterinary molecular diagnostics in the Regional Diagnostic Virology Services (RDVS).


• Participate in the development and validation of the state of the art multiplex molecular assays utilizing fluidic bead-based technology targeting the viruses associated with the three economically important syndromic diseases of farmed animals which are as follows: Swine Enteric Viruses, Bovine Respiratory Viruses and Bovine Enteric Viruses
• Work closely with the Diagnostic Virologist of RDVS, Director of AVC Diagnostic Services (AVC DS) and technical personnel of the RDVS in the development, validation and application of these new multiplex assays
• Directing the research of the project along with the Diagnostic Virologist and the Director of Diagnostic Services and supervise staff that works with in the Project
• Prepare, review, and edit final research reports; prepare manuscripts for publication


• The research scientist candidate must have a PhD related to animal health and postdoctoral fellowship in molecular diagnostic microbiology
• Experience in the development, optimization and validation of multiplex molecular assays utilizing fluidic bead-based technology is required
• Experience working in a veterinary traditional and molecular diagnostic virology laboratory setting
• Experience in the operation, maintenance, application and trouble shooting of Luminex molecular diagnostic equipment system utilized in multiplex molecular assays
• Computer skills and actual experience in molecular biology software related to the design and development of the multiplex assays using fluidic bead based technologies
• Knowledge of the currently available multiplex molecular assays and its application in animal health diagnostic and surveillance is required
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and as an effective member of the molecular research and diagnostic team at AVC Diagnostic Services
• A demonstrated track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals would be an asset
• Experience in conducting and overseeing multiple research projects simultaneously is desirable
