10 hours per week

$10.74 per hour (vacation pay included)

The Department of Physics and the Webster Centre for Teaching and Learning are seeking applications for the position of Student Supported Learning Group (SLF) Leader (also known as Supplemental Instruction Leader). This position will report to the Coordinator of SLG (Treena Smith) and Physics SLG supervisor (Dr. Sheldon Opps).
• Attend at least one weekly lecture in Physics 111/112
• Meet weekly with the first-year “teaching team” to review/discuss teaching issues for the week
• Participate in weekly Physics 111/112 supported learning group tutorial sessions using strategies learned through the SLG training workshops
• Regularly meet with the SLG Supervisors for debrief sessions
• Implement a wide variety of learning strategies for the SLG sessions – based on training materials / personal knowledge and experience
• Notify supervisors about potential problems
• Be able to attend a daylong training session
The successful candidate:
• Will be a 3rd year UPEI student (2nd year students will also be considered)
• Must have received credit for Physics 111 and 112 at UPEI – with an 80% or above final mark
• Content competency in Physics 111/112 required
• Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills required
• Prior group facilitation skills an asset
• Be able to work independently
• Should be familiar with social media for communication amongst peers (or willing to learn)
• Have competencies with computers
• Strong work ethic and dependable
