Biomedical Physics Research Assistant - Department of Physics - Faculty of Science (Grant Funded)
As soon as possible until December 7, 2018 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)
The Department of Physics, University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications from qualified individuals to fill a part-time (0.75 FTE) position in an optoacoustic imaging research laboratory. The lab uses optoacoustic imaging and spectroscopy methods to detect cancers and to monitor treatment strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Analyze existing optoacoustic spectral data from previous experiments
• Develop in vitro experiments to test/evaluate imaging system
• Design an optoacoustic study involving rodents and other models
• Perform research using optoacoustic techniques
• Analyze acquired data and identify next research steps
• Troubleshoot optoacoustic imaging system
• Compare optoacoustic imaging data to other known imaging modalities, such as ultrasound and with histology
• Write report/paper on research findings
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters in Physics, Biomedical Sciences or a related area
• Ph.D. in Physics, Biomedical Sciences or a related area is an asset
• Strong background in biomedical optics
• 2-3 years of experience in a research laboratory setting
• 2-3 years of experience in optoacoustic/photoacoustic imaging and spectroscopy
• 2-3 years of experience working with small animals
• Strong knowledge of MATLAB for data analysis
• Ability to work independently, unsupervised
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
