The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is seeking an undergraduate Research Assistant for the project, entitled “Employment-Related Geographical Mobility (E-RGM) in the Trucking Industry in PEI,” a larger study that investigates the experiences of truck drivers and their employers in the PEI trucking industry. Between 2013 and 2014, semi-structured interviews were conducted with truck drivers and owners/company representatives about the impact of employment-related mobility on experiences in the industry, families and their immediate communities.
The successful candidate for this position will work on a subcomponent of the larger study, entitled “Digital Storytelling,” under the supervision of Dr. Charles Adeyanju, from September 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. S/he will conduct in-depth interviews with 2-3 truckers about their experiences in the industry. The interviews will be transcribed and digitally transformed into oral history. To this end, the successful candidate will receive some training on digital storytelling.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare research ethics application
• Interview participants for digital stories
• Analyze and code data
• Literature reviews
• Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Contact and schedule research participants for interviews
• The ability to work independently and be well organized
• Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgment
• Strong familiarity with field research/qualitative research methods
• Ability to critically review library and Internet sources
• Good writing skills
