Sessional Instructor - Department of History & Classics - Faculty of Arts (Winter 2019)
The Department of History & Classics at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach the following course during the 2019 Winter Term (Jan 3 - April 24):
Course: HIST 3090-2 - “Special Topics: Women in the Medieval Period” (cross listed as DSJS 3090-2 and English 3070)
This course examines the experience of women in Europe from 500-1500, with a primary focus on England. Using a variety of sources, including literary works, historical records, medical and legal texts, the course contrasts representations of women in the era’s literature with their lived experience over the course of the medieval period. Topics include female authors, saints, mystics, musicians, and shield-maidens, along with women's health and health care and expected standards of behavior.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants should have a minimum of a Master’s degree in History or a related discipline, with a specialization in the medieval period, along with teaching and/or research experience dealing with women’s experience in the relevant time period. Qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Department of History & Classics will be given priority.
This position is subject to budgetary approval.
