UPEI has been a prime destination for the popular bursary-based summer language program since its inception more than 40 years ago. Working with staff in the UPEI English Language Centre, the Program Manager is responsible for the overall program administration of the Youth English-language Programs, Explore and Languages at Work (May-August) at the University of Prince Edward Island.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work collaboratively with ELC staff to manage the Explore Program budget and monitor revenue and expenditures
• Recruit, interview, and make hiring recommendations for Activity and Academic Coordinator; Activity Supervisor; Youth Worker and instructor positions for both the Spring and Summer Programs
• Organize and coordinate professional development training sessions for spring and summer staff before the programs
• Oversee the development of the program curriculum and related socio-cultural activities
• Prepare an inventory of existing materials in the programs and recommend the purchase of appropriate learning and teaching materials
• Communicate with the Academic Coordinator regarding instructor evaluation and maintenance of academic standards
• Communicate using the most appropriate method with potential and enrolled students and their parents in French
• Supervise Explore staff and students during formal EAL lessons on weekday mornings and during organized socio-cultural activities on weekday evenings and weekends
• Administer admissions information, contracts, correspondence, discipline, staff evaluations, compilation of students’ final marks, and the coordination of staff meetings, as necessary
• Liaise with the Program’s Academic and Activity Coordinators to resolve issues
• Ensure Explore Program website and program materials are accurate, up-to-date, and available in both official languages
• Respond to information requests related to the Explore Program
• Ensure students are aware of, understand and comply with program policies and regulations
• Participate in ELC staff meetings and provide updates related to the Explore Program
• Prepare a final report for department administration and funding government agency

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree - preferably in Business or Education
• Experience working with English as an Additional Language (EAL) programming
• Experience in program or project management preferably in educational and/or cross-cultural settings
• High proficiency in written and spoken English
• High proficiency in written and spoken French would be an asset
• Excellent administrative/organizational experience required especially in budget processes
• Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated strategies
• Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
• Good computer skills
• Previous experience with the Explore Program considered an asset
• Mental Health First Aid considered an asset
