Reporting to the Comptroller, the Risk & Contracts Officer will support the operational risk management needs of the University. This position is responsible for supporting the community in the areas of contact and Board of Governor’s policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the Comptroller in the support and ongoing development of contract management for the University, including the following:

• Provide contract initiators and others with guidance and advice regarding contracts including pre-review of contracts, interpretation of contracts/contract language, and advice on the impact of specific terms and conditions
• Review and approve the following types of agreements: fee for service contracts, service contracts, secondment agreements, memorandums of understanding, memorandums of agreement, and other university agreements as assigned by the Comptroller
• Review agreements for compliance with the University’s policies and procedures and ensure that all appropriate contract processes/approvals have been followed prior to contract execution
• Coordinate the contract execution process with the assistance of administrative support staff
• Work closely with Comptroller’s Office and Research Services in supporting efficient review and processing of contracts
• Create educational materials, tools and resources for creating awareness of contract administration requirements
• Review of the policy development and approval process
• Develop, revise, amend and review official University Policy related to risk management
• Coordinate the review and development of University Policy with various levels of management
• Ensure policy is vetted by the appropriate University faculty and staff and is presented to external legal counsel for review, as required
• Complete appropriate research related to current policies and practices at other similar institutions
• Provide regular updates to the University community relating to new or changes policies
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.  Experience with contract review and/or policy development would be beneficial.  An understanding of financial procurement processes is also an asset
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently
• Demonstrates knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of contract law, indemnity, insurance, liability, waivers and contract management
• Excellent research and writing skills
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
• Must demonstrate strong problem solving skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
• Experience interacting with various levels of a large organization is an asset
