Up to 15 hours per week (Flexible hours on occasion to meet deadlines or support evening or weekend meetings).

$22.42 per hour, as per CUPE 1870 agreement (grant funded)

March 2013 – June 31, 2013 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on satisfactory performance, available funding, and project requirements.)

The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is the coordinating institution for a Major Collaborative Research Initiative funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The 7-year project, titled Advancing Interdisciplinary Research in Singing (AIRS), is unfolding through the cooperation of some 70 researchers and various other stakeholders from over a dozen countries, and under the direction of Professor. Annabel Cohen, Department of Psychology, UPEI. Its overall objective is to facilitate and coordinate a variety of initiatives exploring the relationship between singing and three research themes: development, education and well-being. The position of Technical Support Coordinator is required to support and implement the knowledge of Singing Analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
An individual is required who is skilled in technical support, who has good interpersonal and communication capabilities and can appreciate the technology needs of a network of researchers and address those needs through optimal co-ordination of a host of technical resources at hand. Duties will include:
• providing support for computers and networking of the AIRS staff
• training other members of the team, both on and off campus, on the use of the above
• interfacing between the AIRS management and the general UPEI information technology support personnel
• providing support for audio/music/video software and hardware needs
• psycho-acoustic experiment support; including brainwave analysis

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, adaptable, punctual, and a team player who can meet deadlines and who possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
Interested candidates should have facility and knowledge of: Database management; video conferencing management; Windows XP, Vista, Macintosh 10.4.x and up, as well as a general familiarity with Linux and Unix; Audio data processing, general hardware/software troubleshooting skills; audio-video technology; Adobe in Design software and other Adobe Creative Suite products; psycho-acoustic technology
Must have demonstrated competency in use of computer applications, including but not limited to: Word-processing and spreadsheet applications, merging data between applications.
Past university course work in computer science and information technology would be an asset. Additional assets include: French/English bilingualism and interest/experience in music.
