The University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for an innovative, energetic Academic Librarian, with an aptitude for scholarly repositories and data management, traditional and emerging forms of scholarly dissemination, experience supporting health sciences, and a strong service orientation to fill a permanent-track position.  This position is subject to budgetary approval.
 

The University of Prince Edward Island is one of Canada’s leading liberal undergraduate institutions. Located in Charlottetown, UPEI is a central educational, cultural and social institution in the City and the Province. With a population of over 4,000 part-time and full-time students, the University is best described as a research-intensive primarily undergraduate university, offering traditional programs as well as many unique areas of study, including professional programs such as Veterinary Medicine and Nursing, and has a strong research focus.

Reporting to the University Librarian, the successful applicant will:

• Provide oversight for the library’s open access repositories - IslandScholar and data.upei.ca - by:
     o Supporting campus scholars in sharing and preserving their publications, coordinating the deposit of scholarly output in appropriate repositories, and consulting on methods for meeting funder and/or publisher requirements;
     o Collaborating with departments and the Office of Graduate Studies, coordinate the deposit of theses, graduate student projects, and undergraduate honours projects;
     o Consulting with scholars on building and maintaining researcher profiles;
     o Supporting campus scholars in the creation of research data management plans;
• Coordinate, develop, and promote activities related to the library’s scholarly communication initiatives;
• Serve as a Liaison Librarian for the Atlantic Veterinary College, Nursing, Applied Human Sciences and Biology programs with responsibilities including information literacy, delivering specialized information services, individual research consultations, collections development, preparing library reports for accreditation and academic program reviews, and budget oversight where appropriate;
• Be the point of contact for services such as Statistics Canada datasets and associated tools and citation management tools;
• Provide in-person and virtual reference service;
• Work collaboratively to investigate and evaluate best practices in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the library’s policies, goals, and procedures;
• Maintain an active and up-to-date awareness of initiatives and offerings in area of expertise, and apply this knowledge to local work;
• Participate in library, university, regional, and national committees and organizations as relevant;
• Perform supervisory duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• An MLIS (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
• University or health library professional experience.
• A degree or professional experience related to health or veterinary sciences
• Familiarity with disciplinary and institutional repositories used for scholarly outputs and with tools, services and initiatives that preserve and share research outputs.
• Demonstrated knowledge of research data management, scholarly communications trends, and issues in the academic environment.
• Familiarity with funding agencies' and publishers' requirements for the preservation and open access of research outputs.
• Experience using evidence-based health-related bibliographic research tools such as PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, CAB Abstracts, SPORTDiscus, Cochrane Library, Agricola, and similar information sources.
• Strong interpersonal skills consistent with effective campus outreach, including approachability, can-do attitude, and strong collaborative focus.
• Highly developed oral and written skills, particularly the ability to explain complex concepts to a diverse user base in individual and group settings, and effectively interact and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including academics and technology staff.
• Ability to thrive in an evolving area of librarianship, as evidenced by creative and analytical thinking and problem solving.
• Commitment and ability to keep up to date with professional trends and issues.
• Demonstrated project management skills.

The position is part of the UPEI Faculty Association Bargaining Unit #1, and is expected to be filled at the Rank of Librarian II.  The appointment will be effective July 1, 2017.  Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
