Diagnostic Services invites applications from qualified and experienced medical laboratory technologists for a permanent full-time Lead Medical Laboratory Technologist position for the Histology Laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful technologist will work as the Lead Technologist in a diagnostic histology laboratory, along with one other full-time laboratory technologist. This position reports to the Director of Diagnostic Services. The Lead Technologist has a lead role in facilitating the supervision of the Histology Laboratory to ensure the quality and efficiency of the workload, staffing and properly functioning instrumentation. The Lead Technologist may be involved in continuing education activities and is responsible for ordering laboratory supplies in consultation with the Director. The Lead Technologist must respond to client histology service requests and needs. The Lead Technologist must respond to and schedule research service requests.

The bench work includes but is not limited to:
• Assisting the pathologists in placing fixed tissues in the processing cassettes
• Processing the tissue cassettes on the tissue processor
• Embedding the processed tissues
• Sectioning (single or serial) slides from the embedded tissues
• Staining the prepared slides
• Preparing teaching slides
• Preparing QA and QC slides
• Cataloging slides and blocks
• Maintaining all client information and technical records in the Laboratory Information Management System 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) designation is required.
• Relevant years of related diagnostic experience in a histology laboratory is required.
• BSc would be an asset.
• Experience in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory is an asset.
• Experience in a lead role in a diagnostic laboratory is an asset.
• Excellent organizational, computer and communication skills are required. 
• Experience with quality control protocols and with ISO standards is desirable.
• Good bench skills are essential.
• The ability to work under minimal supervision, to multitask and to troubleshoot technical issues at the bench and instrument level is desirable.
