The Webster Centre for Teaching and Learning requires Tutors to work with the Aboriginal Academic Advisor out of the Mawi’Omi Aboriginal Student Centre. Tutors will work with First Nations students ranging from grades 4 – 12 and mature learners as identified.
The program will offer tutoring services as well as other academic supports and will be community based. Travel to the Morrell area will be a requirement of this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will work out of the Mawi’Omi Centre and be part of team that provides:
• In consultation with the Aboriginal Academic Advisor, school teachers and staff, plan appropriate academic activities for First Nations youth
• Facilitation of regular tutorial sessions in math, science and English
• Extra-curricular activities with students on a regular basis
• Promote the tutoring program in the communities where it is being delivered
• Report writing
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Self motivated 3rd or 4th year student
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Computer skills
• Experience working with children/youth an asset
• Dependable
• Reference letter from a UPEI professor
Priority to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual. Self-identifying Aboriginal students will be given additional consideration.
