The Comprehensive School Health Research (CSHR) Group, a multi-disciplinary research unit located in the School of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Project Researcher.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the CSHR Principal Investigators (PIs), the successful applicant will play a key role in supporting the advancement of school health research in PEI, including:

• Working collaboratively with the PI(s) and other staff to conduct School Health Action Planning and Evaluation System-Prince Edward Island (SHAPES-PEI) research activities with PEI schools and other school health stakeholders
• Facilitating knowledge exchange with school, board, and government stakeholders
• Engaging community partners in the development of new research dissemination tools
• Coordinating the pilot testing and adaptation of a provincial school health questionnaire
• Initiating and supporting research communication and dissemination activities
• Assisting preparation of ethics applications, funding proposals, abstracts and conference posters/presentations, articles for publication, and other duties as required.
• Capability of working with large data sets, cleaning data and creating data analysis plans
• Data analysis using SPSS and NVivo software programs

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should possess the following qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in a related field with 1 - 3 years’ experience working in a social science research environment
• In-depth knowledge of research processes and quantitative/qualitative methodologies
• Understanding of youth/school health research environment
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
• Excellent ability to plan, coordinate and establish work priorities
• Ability to multi-task, with excellent time management and organizational skills
• Superior written and oral communication skills
• Computer skills to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, RefWorks, NVivo, and SPSS/SAS
• Applicants must have access to a vehicle and be able to travel to PEI schools
• French language skills are considered an asset
