Hours of Work: 

Approximately 10 hours per week throughout the Fall/Winter semesters. The Library is open until 11:00 p.m. Sunday – Thursday; 8:00 p.m. on Friday and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Shifts will range from 1 – 7 hours. Hours may fluctuate with Library requirements.

Salary: 
$10.40 per hour (vacation pay included)

Academic year 2012-2013 with the possibility of renewal for subsequent terms, based on job performance and employment eligibility.

The Robertson Library requests resumes, with a cover letter, that speak to the duties/qualifications in this job posting for student positions for the 2012-2013 academic year. This competition will also be used to create a list for possible future openings. The list will remain in effect until September, 2013. Students hired may be renewed for subsequent terms, based on job performance, and employment eligibility. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn how an academic library operates through involvement in a wide range of library routines and workflows, including: circulation desk duties, shelving, and facilitating the return and check-out of library materials, responding to routine library-related questions, and other related duties as required. Candidates should also highlight relevant IT/computer experience (see details below), as some student assistants may have the opportunity to work on our IT Help Desk, assisting with basic computer trouble-shooting and remedial IT support procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrates: ability to take direction; ability to perform repetitive work while retaining careful attention to detail; punctuality; ability to work as part of a team; strong communication and interpersonal skills; physical ability to handle heavy library materials, book carts, etc. and to stand for extended periods of time; open and willing attitude; and initiative. Experience working with computers is required of all Library student assistants; candidates with additional computing technology experience relevant to either the IT Help Desk (i.e. strong familiarity with the computing software and systems used on the UPEI campus; IT knowledge and skills) should highlight this in their applications. Experience working in an academic library or related public service experience would be an asset for all student assistant positions.
