The Robertson Library is seeking a Programmer Analyst to support the Library as an information crossroads. Information technology systems underpin all of the Library’s operations, both internal and patron-facing, and ensuring that these systems are in working order is crucial to the Library’s mission. The successful candidate will be work closely with Library staff, the campus community, and ITSS to provide technical support and assistance for the Library’s desktops, laptops, peripherals, labs, software and audio visual equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the use of computer hardware and software by the Robertson Library and members of the University community, including such activities as:

• Assist staff and patrons with the use of a wide variety of computer and network-based software, hardware, and services, through telephone and e-mail, and in person
• Provide in-person support on the Library’s Service Desk as scheduled, including answering technology- and circulation-related questions and forwarding reference questions as appropriate
• Install and configure new or replacement desktop and laptop computers and components using established processes and standards
• Install and configure software using established processes and standards including the development and deployment of images, especially in the Apple environment
• Diagnose, correct, and/or refer a wide variety of software, hardware, printer, and network problems
• Repair damaged computers and laptops as required
• Recommend appropriate software and hardware solutions to identified problems
• Research and implement methods of meeting newly identified needs or correcting problems, including establishing and documenting procedures
• Document work performed using established departmental methods
• Maintain inventory of computer hardware, peripherals, and software licenses
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or two year College diploma in computer technology/information systems management along with two year’s work experience in a client support role, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience is required.
• An A+ Hardware Certification and experience providing technical support within the higher education context would be desirable.

In-depth knowledge in the following areas is also required:

• All current versions of Microsoft Windows and macOS
• Command-line and scripting within the macOS (Unix) environment
• Local area network equipment and TCP/IP protocols
• Internet technologies and standards
• Installation, configuration, and use of microcomputer software including Microsoft Office and other common applications
• Identification and removal of malicious software
• Installation, configuration, and use of microcomputer hardware, printers, and peripherals
• Classroom teaching technologies such as projectors, touchscreens, Smartboards, etc.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
• A strong commitment to excellent client service is a fundamental requirement for this position, along with very strong communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex IT problems and a commitment to continuous, self-directed learning is required
