30 hours per week

$23.00 - $25.00 per hour (vacation pay included) (grant funded) commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Immediately for 1 year term (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements.)

This project will directly support the development of health research capacity for observational drug safety and effectiveness studies in the province of PEI. Specifically, this project will determine the value of the administrative health care databases with the province of PEI for conducting observational pharmacoepidemiologic studies by replicating two recent CNODES studies that evaluated the potential adverse effects of a class of cholesterol lowering drugs called statins. This demonstration project will replicate the analytic protocols for a CNODES study that evaluated the association between statin use and the occurrence of acute kidney injury, and a CNODES study that evaluated the association between statin use and the occurrence of diabetes after a heart attack or stroke. Furthermore, this project will work towards developing appropriate research processes with the CNODES organization within the province of PEI, with the goal of making it the ninth province to contribute to CNODES projects.


• Conduct statistical analyses by developing research protocols, compiling data, managing databases, analyzing data using specialized statistical software, and presenting research results in numerical and graphic formats
• Determine data requirements
• Design data collection tools
• Construct and manage databases
• Conduct statistical analysis of data, and report results
• The position will also involve a high level of technical writing
• Specific statistical analysis software will be used such as SAS or SPSS and may include SQL or other programming
• May act as a data consultant to several research studies


• Bachelor degree in an applicable field
• Experience with various statistical analysis and/or data management tools and software
• Experience with managing, analyzing and mining datasets and confidential datasets
• Proven track record in technical writing is essential.
• Experience in working effectively in a research team environment is an asset.
• Some knowledge of pharmacoepidemiologic or the health care field would be an asset
