$43,641.00 per annum as per IBEW 1928

The University of Prince Edward Island, Facilities Management Department, is seeking applicants for the position of Maintenance Repair 1 – Mechanic.


• Diagnose and repair diesel/gas, electrical, hydraulic, and driveline malfunctions
• Ability to work on equipment within work shop or outside as required
• Inspect, service maintain heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, low speed vehicles, ground service equipment and small engines in accordance with provincial regulations, including, but not limited to, changing oil, greasing, frame/body repairs, repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
• Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrications equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment
• Inspect and operate all equipment to be repaired for testing and movement to and from shop
• Perform duties based on work orders being assigned and record details on each work order
• Movement of snow and salt/sand for roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, building entrances, fire hydrants or other areas and ground maintenance during the warmer months
• Housekeeping duties to maintain shop
• Requisitions for material, supplies and tools relating to proposed or actual work being performed and inventory
• Carries out minor repairs or initial investigation relating to plumbing, ventilation, and electrical systems along with repair, reset and reprogram fire alarm and security systems
• Assists in set up and tear down for events
• Such other duties as may be assigned by supervisor


• Grade 12 education level with diploma
• Automotive technology or heavy duty mechanic diploma  
• Preference to Interprovincial Red Seal certification in the trade
• Five (5) years maintenance experience diagnosing diesel/gas engines, electrical, hydraulic, and driveline malfunctions
• Computer software experience
• Educational and/or institutional environments experience is an asset
