37.5 hours per week

$22.00 per hour (off scale, vacation pay included), as per CUPE 1870

Immediately to March 31, 2016 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)

The Young Lives Research Lab is seeking a Research Assistant to support recruitment and data collection for a research project on child and youth mental health in Atlantic Canada. The Research Assistant will be supervised by Dr. Kate Tilleczek, Director, Dr. Brandi Bell, Postdoctoral Research Fellow & Assistant Director, and Dr. Tracy Deyell, Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

The Research Assistant will:
• Help recruit study participants, following approved ethical research protocols
• Network with individuals and organizations across Atlantic Canada
• Conduct interviews (requires travel throughout PE, NB, and NS)

Additional tasks may include:
• Entering data into SPSS
• Data cleaning
• Importing qualitative data into NVivo

• Degree in social science or related discipline (Master’s level preferred)
• Experience in and understanding of qualitative research
• Experience in and understanding of research ethics
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications
• Driver’s licence and ability to travel in PE, NB, and NS

Asset Qualifications:
• Knowledge of child/youth mental health systems and services in Atlantic Canada
• Experience researching and/or working with children and youth
• Experience with SPSS and/or NVivo 
• Knowledge of RefWorks, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite
