Afternoons and evenings.  Applicants will be required to fill out an online form to indicate their time availability (see application instructions).

$11.27 per hour (includes vacation pay)

September 2015 to December 2015,
January 2016 to April 2016, May 2016 to August 2016.

The Physics Department seeks applications for student lab assistants in for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Fall 2015 courses with labs include: Physics 111, Physics 121, Physics 151 (Astronomy: Life in the Universe), Physics 201 (Waves and Oscillations), and Physics 312 (Electromagnetism I).  

Winter 2016 courses with labs include: Physics 112, Physics 122, Physics 292 (Astronomy: Stars, Galaxies and the Universe), Physics 272 (Electronics and Instrumentation) and Physics 441 (Experimental Physics).

Summer 2016 courses could include: Physics 111, 112, 121 and 122.


Lab assistants will be:
• Acting as a general resource person for students during the lab;
• Monitoring student operations in conducting experiments;
• Ensuring all computer and lab equipment is used safely;
• Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as applicable
• (Astronomy course only) Operate the telescope and lead small groups in astronomy viewings.


• Applicants will have successfully completed the course for which they are selected to assist in the lab or course, or have relevant alternative experience.
• Preference will be given to students taken Physics as their major or minor. 
• Previous experience is an asset.

Students hired will be required to successfully complete an on-line WHMIS course and attend a departmental Site Safety Training session.
