The UPEI Centre for Health and Biotechnology Management Research is piloting an exciting new drug and alcohol addictions treatment program on PEI. Computer-Based Training for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT4CBT) is a computer program that is offered alongside traditional counseling for people struggling with alcohol and drug addictions.

The CBT4CBT program will be piloted in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. As part of this pilot, the CBT4CBT program will be offered to four distinct populations on PEI. These include First Nation members, post-secondary students, individuals maintained on methadone and individuals at an inpatient treatment facility. The Research Assistant will be tasked with the day to day administration of the program across the trial sites, providing training to counsellors who will be offering the program to their patients. The Research Assistant will also have contact with trial participants by phone, email and in person to conduct interviews.


• Organization and execution of the CBT4CBT program across all trial sites.
• Working directly with addiction counsellors and individuals dealing with addictions to ensure any questions are answered in a timely manner and that trial protocols are being followed.
• Training participants and counsellors on the use of the program.
• Where possible (excluding highly remote or secured locations), deliver the questionnaires to the trial participants.
• Collection of confidential research data from trial sites and input into established secure data storage systems.


• Psychology Degree or a related health field is considered an asset.
• Previous research experience preferred.
• Familiarity with the health care system and addictions treatments.
• Training in working with people with addictions and high risk individuals would be an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to complete work independently as well as in a team and to take initiative.
