The Comprehensive School Health Research (CSHR) Group is a multi-disciplinary research unit located in the School of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island. The group holds multiple research grants/contracts at any given time and works closely with local, regional, and national partners to conduct high-quality, policy-relevant school health research. The CSHR Group invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Project Researcher.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Researcher will play a key role in conducting qualitative and quantitative school health research in PEI. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator(s) and other staff to conduct research activities with PEI schools and other school health stakeholders, as well as to manage and analyze research data to support report and publication writing. He/she will work directly on a project that explores knowledge to action processes to enhance school health. Responsibilities will include: conducting interviews and focus groups, supporting an intervention process with PEI schools, background literature and information searches, qualitative and quantitative data management/analysis and report writing. In addition, the project researcher will provide support for ongoing research projects and knowledge exchange activities, publication writing, preparation of abstracts and conference posters/presentations, and other duties as required. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should hold at least a Master’s degree (thesis-based) in a related field with experience conducting social science research. Ability to multi-task and work within specified deadlines is essential, along with excellent time management and organizational skills. Should have an in-depth knowledge of research processes and of quantitative and qualitative methodologies; in-depth understanding of current research environment – in particular youth/school health; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team; superior written and oral communication skills; excellent ability to plan, coordinate and establish work priorities; demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work with minimal supervision; computer skills to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, RefWorks, NVivo, and SPSS/SAS. Candidates must have access to a vehicle and be able to travel to PEI schools. French language skills are considered an asset.
