The Department of History and Classics at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a Sessional Instructor to teach HIST 3090-4 (Special Topics – Confronting Terrorism in Today’s World) - Summer 2019. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

HIST 3090-4: Special Topics: Confronting Terrorism in Today's World
This course traces the roots of modern terrorism and its contemporary manifestations. Topics include the impact of the September 11th tragedy; the present struggle with ISIS and other Al Qaeda associated organizations; the historical use of terrorism among such entities as the Irish Republican Army (IRA), the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), the American militia movement, and Irgun; the roles played by the American and European criminal justice systems, the military and intelligence services, diplomacy, foreign aid and other forms of “hard” and “soft” power in combating terrorism; and the link between terrorism and the media.

Successful applicants will have a minimum of a Master’s degree in History or a related discipline, and teaching and/or research experience that addresses the history of terrorism and its contemporary global context.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the academic unit.
