The Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a research student position in aquaculture virology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will assist NSERC Discovery Grant-funded research and with routine laboratory procedures including:
• RT-PCR protocols
• Cloning of PCR products
• Preparing solutions and buffers and general clean-up
• Work independently on assigned research projects in the lab
• Other duties depending on other research projects underway in the lab

QUALIFICATIONS:

The person that we are looking for should be:
• Highly motivated
• Ability to work independently
• Work well with others in a busy lab
• Minimum qualification is successful completion of first year in a DVM program
• Familiarity with basic microbiology and biochemistry lab skills including sterile technique and cell culture
• Experience with laboratory virology techniques and interest in research work are desirable assets
