Hours will vary depending on workload.

$30.00 per hour, vacation pay included

Immediately for 450 hours; term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding, and departmental requirements.

The work continues a project exploring the experience of tobacco smoking among women and men living in poverty as well as women and men who are relatively financially secure, and all of whom are current or former smokers.

The Research Associate is an academic and research position engaged with data analysis, literature synthesis, drafting and editing.  The position is located in the Department of Psychology.


• Review and synthesize relevant literature.
• Code in-depth qualitative interviews utilizing NVivo software.
• Participate in thematic analysis.
• Draft sections of journal article submissions.
• Prepare conference posters.
• Manage budget and liaise with UPEI administration, including accounting and research.


• A Master’s degree in social sciences.
• Extensive experience in qualitative interviewing.
• Extensive knowledge of literature around smoking and around poverty.
• Extensive experience interacting with people engaged with tobacco and living in poverty.
• Extensive experience in qualitative analysis.
• Experience in independently utilizing NVIVO 10.
• Proven ability to multi-task, set work priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Demonstrated adherence to the highest ethical standards of integrity, fairness, and confidentiality.
