Tenure Track Position

The Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in small animal surgery. Appointment will be made at the Assistant or Associate professor level.

The successful applicant will join an established surgery program with 3 other surgery faculty, 2 surgery interns, 1 rotating intern, 1 nurse, and 2.5 technicians. Job duties include teaching in undergraduate & graduate programs, providing clinical service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, developing a research program and contributing to extension and continuing education programs.  Three months study time will be given for surgery board preparation if needed. 

The successful candidate will have:
• a DVM (or equivalent) degree
• successfully completed an ACVS or ECVS accredited residency program
• demonstrated teaching ability
• well-developed skills of collaboration, relationship building and communication
• eligibility for licensure with the Prince Edward Island Veterinary Medical Association. 

Preference will be given to candidates with diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. A graduate degree is desirable but not mandatory.

The salary range is $110,000 – $140,000 CAD, and will be commensurate with credentials and experience.  Full-time, permanent faculty receive a comprehensive fringe benefits package, with benefit details provided at time of offer in accordance with the collective agreement.  This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.

Situated on the country’s beautiful east coast, with easy access to beaches all around, the AVC has 240 DVM students and is the main veterinary referral center in Atlantic Canada with a busy surgical caseload. Equipment includes Kyon THR system, TPLO and TTA sets, harmonic scalpel/Enseal, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, arthroscopy, tracheal stents, CO2 laser and a mobile fluoroscopy unit for intraoperative use.
