The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications from qualified sessional instructors to teach the following course in the Winter Semester of 2017. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

Course: S/A 259 – “Art in PEI Culture & Society”

Through an introduction to aesthetic analysis and semiotics this course will explore concepts of community, identity, and place through an examination of art, artists, and their artistic practices on Prince Edward Island. By studying, engaging with, and participating in the creation of contemporary artistic expression students will be challenged to reconcile theory and practical experience in examining the political, economic, and social roles of the culture industry on PEI.
Please note priority will be given to qualified individuals on the sessional roster of the academic unit.

Prerequisites:
•  A MA or PhD in Sociology or Anthropology or related field, and a background in the various socio-cultural approaches on the meaning, nature, and professional conduct of applied forms of aesthetic practices.
• Previous related professional experience, and the ability to provide an experiential learning environment, will be considered assets.
