The Department of Biomedical Sciences is seeking applications for a temporary undergraduate student research assistant.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Required to work in a laboratory to conduct microelectrode studies of the electrical activity of zebrafish hearts, before and after exposure to environmental toxicants and autonomic nervous system neurotransmitters
• Requires the preparation of perfusion and drug solutions and microelectrodes, in addition to data acquisition and analysis using a custom computer-based system

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidate must have a strong undergraduate background in biology and chemistry. Additional expertise in cardiac or neural electrophysiology and in the behaviour of nonlinear dynamical systems would be an asset
• Laboratory experience would be considered and asset
• A strong work ethic, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision

Strong references demonstrating these skills are required.
