Hours of Work: 

5-10 hours per week

$13.29 per hour (vacation pay included)

The GeoREACH lab in the Applied Communications, Leadership & Culture program is seeking a Student Research Assistant to support research and data entry related to land use, food, and policy history in Atlantic Canada. The Student Research Assistant will be supervised by Dr. Joshua MacFadyen, Director, and Ross Dwyer, Project Manager. The GeoREACH lab supports Geospatial Research in Atlantic Canadian History and other projects of the ACLC program.


• Produce historical research using primary documents
• Participate in the weekly team meeting
• Conduct literature reviews
• Perform data entry and summaries
• Organize research results in databases such as Google Docs and Zotero
Additional tasks may include
• Aerial photo interpretation
• Working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)


• Experience with data management (spreadsheets)
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications
• Knowledge of Atlantic Canadian history would be an asset
• Knowledge of food and agriculture would be an asset
• Experience with GIS would be an asset
• Driver’s license and ability to travel to various PEI archives would be an asset
