37.5 hours per week 

$30.00 per hour (vacation pay included), as per CUPE 1870 (off scale)

The UPEI Climate Lab conducts research and science on climate change vulnerability, impacts and adaptation.  The UPEI Climate Lab is involved in several research and monitoring programs, a volunteer watch system, a climate seminar series, an annual climate science symposium, a climate student award, training sessions, an academic program on applied climate change, and an international peer-reviewed journal. A major component of the research at the UPEI Climate Lab is the development of a large database (CLIVE) of meteorological, climatological and other relevant data to understanding past and future environmental changes on Prince Edward Island (for example, shoreline erosion, air photography, storm surge, community observation program). The database presents a wide spatial (global to local) and temporal (past and future) scale to service a wide range of clients.

The UPEI Climate Lab has partnered with the Marine Environmental Observation Prediction and Response (MEOPAR) Network and Irving Shipbuilding and is engaged in several joint research projects. 

The ideal candidate will have an interest and experience in environmental sciences. This position will support the research of UPEI Climate Lab and advancing the activities involving CLIVE.


The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

• Develop and post print, audio and visual media accounts of the CLIVE work on Lennox Island as well as draft articles about the research of the UPEI Climate Lab for its website
• Identify, catalogue and maintain a database of UPEI Climate Lab research
• Assist in the development of strategic planning for the MEOPAR project including drafting new funding proposals
• Liaise with other MEOPAR researchers in the development of collaborations and sharing of data/equipment/services/expertise
• Lead the completion of reporting requirements for the MEOPAR project


• The successful applicant will have completed a degree in a relevant discipline; e.g., Environmental Sciences or Engineering
• Have an advanced level of research, writing, and analytical skills
• Proven ability to write successful funding proposals and applications
• Experience working on large multi-partner research projects
• Completion of an MBA is considered an asset
