 The Department of Modern Languages is seeking undergraduate Research Assistants for a research project, entitled “A PEI Voice for Acadians and Francophones: The Editorials of La Voix acadienne between two World Acadian Congresses (2004-2009)”. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Carlo Lavoie.
• Conduct a quantitative analysis of the editorials published in La Voix acadienne between 2004 and 2009;
• Explore the themes by the nature of the expressed comments (cultural, economic, political, social), the comments’ scope (local, regional, provincial, national, international), their point of view (objective, subjective), their recurrence, to whom they are addressed (PEI community, a group of individuals, a politician, out-of-province individuals or groups);
• Propose a qualitative analysis of those themes.
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications:
• Fr 241 course completed;
• Strong French reading and writing skills;
• Good knowledge of the Acadian and Francophone community;
• Ability to work independently and to perform tasks on short notice;
• Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgment;
• Being well organized will be considered a definite asset.
Priority to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
