$50,347 to $55,378 per annum as per CUPE 1870

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital requires an Animal Health Technician to work nights primarily in the Small Animal Intensive Care Unit (ICU).  This position provides technical support in the SA ICU rotating on a 3 nights on / 3 nights off basis and may also have Large Animal responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Completing treatment orders for patients
• Monitoring progression of ICU patients
• Monitoring, advising, and assisting veterinary students working after hours in the Small Animal ICU or doing treatments in the Large Animal Hospital
• Providing technical support to the Large Animal Hospital when required
• Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the ICU and biosecurity standards
• Maintaining supplies and ensuring proper equipment maintenance within ICU
• Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a graduate of an Animal Health Technician program from a recognized facility
• RVT designation required (for new permanent applicants)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must be self-motivated and reliable
• Must be able to work as part of a team, but must also be able to work independently as required
• Computer proficiency to be able to perform billing
• Experience with flex schedule (especially night work) preferred
• Experience in an emergency/critical care setting preferred
• 3-5 years of experience with small animals
• Experience with large animals an asset
• Excellent technical proficiency with experience placing catheters and administering IV fluids, performing sample collection (blood/urine), assisting with diagnostic procedures, performing patient assessments and administering required treatments
