Who can sign university contracts?

All contractual obligations of the University must be signed by an official signing authority or a designated signing authority in limited circumstances. The Signing Authority Policy establishes the official and designated signing authorities of the University.

​If you've been asked to sign a contract on behalf on the university or if your name is listed on a contract, please contract the Risk Management Office for advice. Signing a contract without authorization can expose you to personal liability.  

Who is an Official Signing Authority?

The following university positions have been authorized as Official Signing Authorities:

  • Chair of the Board of Governors

  • President

  • Vice-President, Administration and Finance

  • Vice-President, Academic and Research

  • Comptroller
