While some awards are decided on automatically, many others require an application from the student. The Scholarships and Awards Committee at UPEI has two main dates for their applications, one in the fall and one in the spring. For those dates and for a complete list of scholarships, awards, and bursaries, go to http:///www.upei.ca/studentservice/3_awardsandscholarships
Here are a few tips:
- Don't assume you're ineligible because of marks or year or resources: apply for everything you might be eligilble for;
- Make sure your applications are complete or they won't be considered;
- Look for external awards as well as the UPEI ones;
- If an application asks for a statement, be clear and edit the piece well. If the statement is about financial need, make it clear what efforts you are making to pay for your own education as well as what you will need to make up the difference;
- The Scholarships committee may assume that students will save money through summer work and apply for a student loan. If you haven't done either, explain way.
