The UPEI School of Sustainable Design Engineering is devoted to developing engineers with exceptional design and professional skills combined with a global perspective—engineers who are broadly capable, globally and socially aware, creative, communicative, and entrepreneurial. Our graduates are ready from day one to provide sustainable solutions to meet the challenges of today's and tomorrow's world.
Building on the UPEI Strategic Plan (2013-2018), a team approach to innovative program planning was led by UPEI President Dr. Alaa Abd-El Aziz over a three year period. This approach brought together UPEI Engineering faculty and members of our internal university community with regional and international stakeholders from many sectors.
The powerful shared vision of these partners resulted in the development of the UPEI Sustainable Design Engineering program – a unique program focused of delivering real-world interactions, collaborations, and solutions.
Through best practices research, a highly successful industry and stakeholder symposium (that included regional and international partners), extensive planning, and an outstanding engineering advisory council (co-chaired by UPEI President Dr. Alaa Abd-El Aziz and former UPEI chancellor Mr. Bill Andrew), UPEI is set to enable innovation by educating engineers capable of solving problems by designing solutions that benefit our communities both at home and around the globe.
Endorsed by the UPEI Senate, the UPEI Board of Governors, the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (the quality assurance body for higher learning within Canada’s Maritime provinces), the Government of Canada (ACOA), the Government of Prince Edward Island, and expert external reviewers, the UPEI Sustainable Design Engineering program provides students with unprecedented opportunities to gain their Bachelor of Science (Sustainable Design Engineering) via a client-focused, project-based model delivered in an intimate learning environment that is hallmarked by mentoring and collaboration with faculty, industry, and community organizations.
Quite simply, it is a program that has the ability to enable both our students and our communities to reach their full potential.
