These units are Dell Precision 690 workstations with 8GB of RAM and quad-core Xeon processors at 3.0GHz per core.
You can use the fully-qualified DNS names from off-campus, or from other labs on-campus.
SPECIAL NOTE: please refrain from using the main server (Tux) as a remote workstation. If you crash it, nobody can get at their files, period. Use a workstation to do your work, and if you crash it, then nobody else will be inconvenienced. For database applications, please use the mysql client on a workstation to connect to your database on tux.
You must use SSH to access the lab. We recommend PuTTY, which can be downloaded from this web page. If you wish to run an X session, please do so via an SSH tunnel (with the -X option for ssh.)
