Computer Science on the Court

"Computer science nowadays is finding its way into everything from athletics to analytics to anything else you can imagine."

by Neal Gillis

School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences student Jeremy Thompson is a lifelong athlete. The UPEI Cross Country Running Team member and avid basketball player recently combined his passions for sport and computer science, conducting research to analyze athletic movements with a recurrent neural network.

“The thing I like most about computer science is the amount of opportunities it provides you,” says Thompson. “You really have opportunities to work in any field.”

Ice cream for a cause
UPEI teams up with COWS Ice Cream and Canadian Mental Health Association to raise funds and awareness.
Better than travel
Cameron Hastie's interest in German culture and history made him want to visit the country. UPEI gave him the opportunity to do that and more through a study-abroad term and a work term with an industry giant.
Gravitational cars
First-year students in UPEI's School of Sustainable Design Engineering recently designed and developed gravity-powered cars for a class assignment.
