The Biology Department will host the Human Biology & Environmental Sciences Seminar Series on Friday, November 15, 12:30–1:30 pm in the Duffy Science Centre, Room 204. Dr. David Holben, Department of Applied Health Sciences and Wellness, Ohio University will present "Food insecurity of food bank users in and around BC’s lower mainland." All are welcome to attend!
UPEI is expanding its popular series of public discussions with UPEI researchers to highlight the exciting exploration and discoveries of graduate students. The first ever Graduate Research on Tap is Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 pm in the Wave in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The first discussion will be led by Hailey Lambe, a masters of biology student and research assistant with the PEI Urban Fox Research Project. Her talk is titled: The Trials and Tribulations of Tracking Red Foxes in the City. Bonnie Stewart, a PhD student in the Faculty of Education, will lead the second discussion of the evening, entitled The Rules of Engagement: When Scholars Meet Social Media. Sound interesting? Join us! Graduate Research on Tap is a series of public discussions with UPEI graduate student researchers. Presented by the UPEI Student Union, the UPEI Graduate Student Association, and the Vice-President Research and Graduate Studies.

The Animal Care Committee does not meet in December. The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions -- new, renewal, or amendments -- is Friday, January 3, 2014 for the January meeting. Ensure you always download the current forms from http://research.upei.ca/animal_care and use Adobe Reader to complete forms. Only current forms will be accepted. Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date. ∙ Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept., Rm 2302. ∙ Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. This Wellness Wednesday will give you insight on how to cope with stress, stress management techniques, spiritual guidance, and how to quiet your mind. There will also be a meditation seminar following this event at 2:30 pm! Everything you need to know about keeping a calm, stress-free mind right at your fingertips! Location: UPEI Sports Centre Lobby Time: 12:00-1:30 pm November 20—ZUMBA-THON As part of our Wellness Wednesdays, we want to get you movin’ and groovin’! We will have a ZUMBA-THON at lunch starting at 12:00 pm on November 20. We ask that each department on campus come dressed in a group color. The department that has the most enthusiastic group will win a $100 gift card to Chartwells! Teams must register by contacting Samantha at: sthorpe@upei.ca by Monday, November 18. Murphy Student Centre’s McMillan Hall. Dr. Saint-Jacques will take attendees on the learning journey that led him to become a Canadian astronaut and talk about his training. He will also give an overview of Canadian Space Agency projects, and will share some insights on future opportunities for students.
