Dr. Richard Kostrzewa will present a special seminar entitled "L-DOPA Effects on Striatal Microdialysate Levels of Hydroxyl Radical in Parkinsonian Rats" on Thursday, April 17 at 10:30 am in AVC, Lecture B. Dr. Kostrzewa is currently Professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee. He received his PhD in Pharmacology at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science and his Dr.h.c. in Pharmacology at the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland. His research concentrates on the mechanistic role of 1) dopamine D1 and D2 receptor supersensitivity and 2) serotoninergic modulation of dopaminergic systems. All are welcome to attend.

UPEI is recruiting volunteers for a nutrition research study who meet the following criteria: overweight, non-smokers, not diabetic, between the ages of 21–65. If you meet all of the above criteria, you may be eligible to participate in the study whose purpose is to evaluate the health effects of blueberry consumption on indicators of diabetes and heart disease. Study investigators are Dr. Katherine Gottschall-Pass, Dr. Marva Sweeney-Nixon, and Dr. Kim Stote. Please take a few moments before leaving for the long weekend to turn off any unnecessary equipment (e.g. computers, monitors, printers, speakers, etc.). The reduced loads improve overall campus energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A period of closure for the University offers a great opportunity to save money on utilities. Past history has shown that very few people occupy the buildings for any substantial time during the holidays. With this in mind, buildings will be heated/cooled according to University Temperature Guidelines (http://www.upei.ca/facilities/sustainability/energy-management/guidelin…) during the Easter weekend with the assumption that buildings are unoccupied. The exception will be buildings that contain special collections or sensitive equipment, or buildings that are officially open during the holidays.
