With the start of the fall semester, the demand for keys and card access increases greatly. We are doing our best to meet the demand, but we ask for your patience. We would like to ask for your assistance by doing the following: -Security will contact you when your key is available for pick up. If you have not been notified then your request has not yet been processed and we ask for your patience. -Key requests are processed on Tuesdays. Key requests must be received in security prior to 4:00 pm on Monday to be processed on Tuesday. If the request is late being sent to security, it will be set aside for the next week’s key processing. Once you have received notification that your key is available, we ask you to pick it up between 8:30 am and 3 pm Monday–Friday at the Security front desk. -If you obtain a new ID card and need your access levels updated, please send an email to security@upei.ca with your name, ID number, and the bar code from your ID, and we will process the request. The Environmental Sciences and Human Biology research seminars kicks off the year with its first seminar on Friday, September 12. The first speaker will be Dr. Yefang Jiang from Agriculture and Agri-food Canada (AAFC). Dr. Jiang's talk is entitled "Advancing knowledge for improving water quality and economic resiliency of crop production in Atlantic Canada." The event will take place at The Hampshire House on 84 Beacon St. from 5:30-7:30 pm. Staff and faculty are invited to take part in the Shine Day Kick-off at the W.A. Murphy Student Centre from 8:30-9:30 am on Saturday, September 6. Discover what Shinerama is about and what UPEI is doing to help. If you aren't able to attend, you can show your support by donating to the cause! UPEI students will be going around campus on Monday, September 8 beginning at 1:00 pm collecting money in support of Shinerama. Please note the date has changed and donations will now be collected on Monday.
UPEI is pleased to announce a program that will enhance its student support services. Through a partnership with Shepell-FGI, UPEI will now offer a Student Support Program (SSP) for all students. This program is similar to the Employee and Family Assistance Program offered to UPEI staff and faculty. Students will have access to many different professionals 24/7, 365 days a year, including counsellors, nutritionists, lawyers, financial experts and others. Students can receive support on a variety of topics including relationships, childcare, landlord/tenant issues, and health and financial issues as well. These services are available in over 200 different languages. The program will be available September 1. Representatives from Shepell-FGI will also be on campus September 9 and 10 to provide information to students regarding the new program. The Scholarships, Awards and Financial Aid team from the Registrar’s Office will be holding information sessions for all interested students on “How to Apply for Scholarships and Awards” at UPEI. UPEI staff and faculty are asked to encourage their students to attend. Sessions will be held on Wednesday, September 10 and Wednesday, September 17 at 12:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm each day. They will be on campus in the Robertson Library second floor computer lab. Canadian journalist and author Gwynne Dyer will speak at UPEI on Monday, September 22 as part of his cross-Canada university and college tour. The event will take place in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, room 242 in Don and Marion McDougall Hall at 7:00 pm. Sponsored by the UPEI Faculty of Arts, Dyer’s lecture is entitled "What the First World War Taught Us." Admission is free an all are welcome to attend.
Amber Masonry will begin brick repointing around the east side entrance way of Steel Building today, September 4. This work will take approximately two weeks to complete (weather dependent), and will be completed during evenings (start time of 4:00 pm) and weekends.
