UPEI invites the nomination of candidates for honorary degrees to be conferred at Convocation in May 2015. Honorary degrees are conferred honoris causa, “for the sake of honour,” and are intended to recognize outstanding provincial, national, and international contributions in any field(s) of endeavour. Contributions should reflect extraordinary intellectual or artistic achievements or significant service to society at a standard of excellence that merits the University’s highest honour. Nominations can be made online or a form can be downloaded to mail at upei.ca/nominatehdr. For more information call (902) 566-6780 or email senateassistant@upei.ca. Deadline for nominations is January 2, 2015.
Together with the Island community, UPEI faculty and staff are invited to attend the University of Prince Edward Island and the UPEI Alumni Association's New Year’s Levee. Again this year, we will celebrate our growing multicultural campus. Join us to celebrate 2015 and wish our UPEI International students a Happy New Year on Thursday, January 1, 2015, 11:30 am-1:00 pm at Schurman Market Square, Don and Marion McDougall Hall. The Healthy Campus Committee is pleased to announce a subsidy to cover the majority of the cost of small-group personal training. The first 30 UPEI employees to sign-up for one of the following sessions will receive a $100 subsidy towards the six-week session cost. Employees can apply for the program by completing the client information form and returning it to Angela Marchbank, Fitness & Wellness Coordinator at amarchbank@upei.ca. Please note: *employees who used the subsidy in previous years can only be eligible for the subsidy this year if they encourage a UPEI employee who has not previously accessed the program to sign up. It's simple, just record the number of minutes you are active daily. To find out more about the free access to the walking track, and to a variety of fitness classes, please visit ar.upei.ca/recreation/fitness/wellness - Please note: this challenge is for UPEI employees and students only. Registration deadline – Friday, January 9, 2015. Please complete form found on the website and return to Angela Marchbank at amarchbank@upei.ca.

Otis Elevator will be doing maintenance on the elevator in the Health Sciences Building on Monday, December 22. In order to do this the elevator will be shut down for approximately two hours beginning at 10:00 am. Please make your department aware of this shutdown. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. The Masters in Nursing Graduate Studies Committee will host a Master of Nursing Thesis Examination on Thursday, December 18 at 2:00 pm. Darlene Robison, BScN, will defend her Master of Nursing thesis entitled “The Lived Experience of Dignity in Older Adults Living with Schizophrenia: A Phenomenological Study.” The presentation will be held in the Health Sciences Building, room 105. Everyone is welcome to attend.
