Bruce Rainnie to offer public speaking workshop, June 12 to 14

Posting Date(s)

UPEI’s ACLC program will host a public speaking workshop from June 12–14 run by Bruce Rainnie.  The aim of this workshop is to provide a small group of undergraduate and graduate students at UPEI with an opportunity to significantly improve their abilities to represent their thoughts through verbal communication to a public audience.

Bruce Rainnie brings a wealth of public communications experience with him to his position as the Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture Program’s Practitioner in Residence. He is currently the President and CEO of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in Halifax. Prior to this position, he was the host of CBC News: Compass, the supper-hour news program for Prince Edward Island. In that role, he helped Compass become the country’s number one rated CBC supper-hour news broadcast. Bruce is known nationally for his work with CBC Sports. Along with being a regular host on Hockey Night in Canada, he broadcast eight Olympic games–including the most recent games in South Korea.

Workshop participants must commit to the full program over the three days. The workshop runs 10:00 am to 2:00 pm from June 12 through June 14.

The workshop will include an exploration of the following topics:

  • How to manage anxiety
  • How to convey confidence while speaking
  • How to eliminate problematic presentation habits
  • How to prepare for a pre-planned talk
  • How to prepare for an interview

There are limited spaces available for this workshop. For more information, or to sign up for this free program, please contact Lisa Chilton, Director, Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture Program, at lchilton@upei.ca.
